After graduating Salutatorian in high school, I was encouraged to pursue a Chemical Engineering degree at Louisiana Tech University. I couldn’t wait to keep learning, so I started college the summer after graduating. Classes were going well, and my peers began asking me to help them with their assignments and prepare for exams. While tutoring my peers,  I realized I was happier helping my peers understand our math, science, and engineering classwork than I was pursuing an engineering career as a whole. This experience ignited my love for teaching. After working with these students and witnessing their academic growth and seeing their mindsets about learning math and science change for the better, I realized I wanted to help our youth succeed with math and science standards, too. I realized that working to improve education by developing relevant curriculum and using creative teaching strategies to engage students was important to me. I wanted to make learning fun, specifically when learning math and science standards. I adopted a goal to serve with significance. I transferred to Louisiana State University in Shreveport, changed my major to a double major in Elementary (K-6) and Special Education (K-12), and graduated with honors, Kappa Delta Honors Society. During my time as a student at LSUS, I spent most of my time in local elementary and middle school classrooms working with students in regular and special education classes, learning from talented teachers already doing this work. My special education background also provided me with multiple opportunities to work with students using multiple learning styles, with much of my experience working with students identified with Autism and Aspergers. As an educator, I have served as an Odyssey of the Mind Coach going to State twice and placing in the top 15 at Nationals. I have been an active member of many committees and cohorts aimed at school improvement and positive behavior support systems for students and staff. I have served as a team leader and as a coordinating teacher and mentor for student teachers and new teachers. I have developed professional development for staff about differentiation and project-based learning using current S.T.E.A.M. Standards. I believe every child can learn, and I am excited to be a part of the EduMEE community:)
